La Huacana is the municipal seat of La Huacana Municipality in Michoacán, Mexico. In 2010 it also was the most populous locality in the municipality. Its name's origin comes from the Chichimeca, meaning "the place of dressings". During the wars before the Spaniards arrived, this place was conquered by the "tarasco", by the successors of Tariacuri: Hiquingare, Tanganxoan and Hirepan, whom in order to pay the tributes named as chieftain Cupauxanti. In the 16th century, with the arrivals of the Spaniards, shortly after the conquest in Apatzingan, La Huacana became an "encomienda" under Juan Pantoja. In the 18th century, in 1789 Jose Maria Morelos treated the parish of "Tamacuaro de la Aguacana". La Huacana is the head of the municipality of their principal economic activities, which are the agriculture, cattle raising and fishing. It is located 161 kilometers from the capital of the state and it has a population of 9,374. == Geography and environment == Zicuiran is another location in the municipality and it has the same principal economic activities that the La Huacana has (as well as the rest of the locations near it). It is 20 kilometers from the head of the municipality and it has a population of 2,921. El Chauz if 27 kilometers away and has a population of 2,220. Los Olivos is 40 kilometers away and has a population of 624.Cupuan del Rio is 48 kilometers away and has a population of 1,536. Copales is 15 kilometers away and has a population of 283.
